So, here goes nothing. A song-by-song breakdown of one of my favorite artists' new album:
Track 1: Still Feel Like Your Man
Track 2: Emoji of a Wave
Track 3: Helpless
Track 4: Love on the Weekend
Track 5: In the Blood
Track 6: Changing
Track 8: Moving On and Getting Older
Here, Mayer returns to his "Continuum" roots, and it works in a big way. The beat is uptempo, the harmonies sound great, and the lyrics are all about his desire to get on with his life. There are hang-ups, of course, and he's coming to the realization that "moving on and getting over are not the same, it seems to me," but in the end, he's moving on.
Track 9: Never on the Day You Leave
Track 10: Rosie
Track 11: Roll It on Home
Track 12: You're Gonna Live Forever in Me
THE VERDICT: Overall, this was a very strong album. You see all of the pieces of John Mayer that we've met through his other albums while seeing a side of him that we never have before. On a scale of 1-10, I'd give it about an 8.8.
Also, John Mayer is definitely not over Katy Perry. Not even a little bit.
