Deputies said that when they arrived at the house on Thompson Bailey Road, the suspect, Mary Hamilton, told them, “The door was open for me to come inside,” according to a report from the St. Johns County Sheriff’s Office.
Hamilton, 63, now faces charges of burglary and theft, following the incident last Wednesday afternoon.
The homeowner, upon finding the intruder, went outside and locked herself inside her car while she called authorities.
Deputies also determined that Hamilton entered through the homeowner’s front door, took a T-shirt belonging to the victim’s son and ate leftover food from the refrigerator before opening the can of pineapple.
You know what's the saddest part of this story? This homeowner was probably looking forward to eating those leftovers that selfish Mary Hamilton decided to take for herself. You can buy canned pineapple at any grocery store you see. I'm sure Mary had some clothes at home that she just didn't feel like wearing that day (although she did get cold and steal that t-shirt from the homeowner's son). But there's nothing more disappointing than thinking about your delicious meal the previous day, coming home after a stressful day of work/school, looking in the fridge, and seeing that the leftovers have been taken by one of your selfish family members/roommates. Except in this case, instead of being a person that you live with, it's a total stranger and they're naked and apparently they were extra hungry because they're also eating your canned pineapple (which, by the way, is the undisputed best fruit, don't @ me). Shame on you, Mary Hamilton. Enter my unlocked home and that's my fault. Eat my leftovers and we have a real problem.
