Bradford re-signed with the Eagles in March to a two-year, $35 million deal with $22 million fully guaranteed.
The Eagles would be responsible for Bradford's $11 million signing bonus. ProFootballTalk.com reported earlier this year that $5.5 million of the $11 million signing bonus was due March 18 and the rest of the bonus was due on or before September 1. The rest of his contract -- $20 million in base salaries and $4 million March 2017 roster bonus -- would go to the Vikings.
And just like that, the Sammy Sleeves era is over in Philadelphia. While I'm happy that the Eagles picked up some draft picks and we're gonna see some action from Carson Wentz this year, it's kind of a letdown to know that your team is essentially punting the season away and starting it off with Chase Daniel under center. The Eagles' top two QBs now have a total of two NFL passing attempts between them. I hope that Doug Pederson is the quarterback guru that everyone says he is, because the good Lord knows this team needs it.
I do feel bad for Bradford, though. It's not his fault his bones are made of glass and his ACLs are made of tissue paper, which causes him to get injured every year. He's also had absolutely no consistency offensively. He's never played in the same offense under the same coach for two consecutive years since he was in college back at Oklahoma, and when Teddy Bridgewater comes back for the Vikings, he's probably going to.get kicked to the curb once again.
So long, Sam. I hope sleeves look good in purple.
